Paradigm

P Logo

Paradigm is a new ministry in Seattle that Julie and I have helped to launch. We got involved because we see Seattle as a tumultuous spiritual climate in which extremist liberal and conservative voices have dominated the landscape. Julie and I felt convicted to create something that promoted and embodied a radical middle way. (That’s not to say we are indecisive or compelled to play the moderate card; we just believe that faithfully following the Way happens to land a person in a tense middle between Seattle’s extremes.

A phrase that comes up often in the Paradigm community is “holy and whole.” We believe that God calls people to lives that reflect the Kingdom in personal and private matters alike. As Wesleyans we spend a lot of time talking about personal holiness, and as emergents we seek to recover the holistic social concern that is so evident in Scripture and used to be central to the Wesleyan movement. You could call us Wesleymergents.

Paradigm gatherings happen on Sunday evenings (7 p.m.) in the gym of First Free Methodist Church, across the street from Seattle Pacific University. The gatherings are participatory, multi-sensory, and nu-liturgical.
